Sometimes we feel we could have done something more.
Spoken up more.
Taken more action.
All for the sake of avoiding what happened.
For we constantly judge the events around us.
And when they do not conform to our desires, we second guess ourselves.
We look for what we did wrong.
Searching for what we could have done to make things turn out different.
What if they weren’t supposed to be different?
How about if the unwanted results were exactly what was supposed to happen?
We often think we know what is best.
Micromanaging the world and the universe around us.
Yet when we give up control and allow life to tell us what should be, instead of the other way around, we can find more peace.
We may not feel that much better.
But we can then stop blaming ourselves for not doing more, for not being more.
We are all doing the best we can with what we have.
Is there room for improvement?
Of course there is.
Does that mean things should have turned out differently?
Probably not.
We are often too close to the event to truly see it clearly.
Like when we stand too close to a painting so we cannot see the full image.
Time gives us perspective, and in time, we will see things differently.
Perhaps we will never see the really big picture.
Yet if we can let go of having to see it clearly, if we can learn to live in the ambiguity of not knowing, maybe we can find the peace we are looking for.
Is there a place in your life where you are feeling you could have done more?
Can you try on the mindset of “What if things worked exactly the way they were supposed to?” even if you don’t like the results?
Even if it is too soon to tell?
