Fear is a great divider.
Loss is a great generator of fear.
The fear of loss keeps us from truly being open.
To get past the walls that fear creates is one of the most rewarding efforts.
For when we are afraid of losing what we have, we close ourselves off.
We grasp even harder to hold on to what we fear to lose.
And any small indication of the potential loss will set us off.
When we get triggered, our emotions run high.
Our fears become more palatable.
They almost seem to materialize in front of our eyes.
And all too often we do the very things that will drive away what we’re afraid to lose.
Then we are devastated.
What we saw in our mind’s eye has come to be.
It is amazing how we do not see how we participated in creating that reality for ourselves.
Yet, our heart is broken from the loss, it actually breaks open.
We are tender and raw.
Our ego deflates.
And we are more open to what is in front of us.
And if we are really lucky, we come back together with the very thing we lost.
Yet now we have no fear of losing it.
We have already gone through the crucible of pain.
We now are present in a more open way.
We come together with our hearts at peace.
To build a stronger bond than ever before.
Learning to let go of our fear of loss is not easy.
It does not come to the faint of heart.
Yet when we realize that ultimately there is no loss, there is only transformation, we can live a more peaceful life.
