Shame is something we don’t often speak about in polite company.
It’s a topic to avoid because it is at the heart and core of many of our challenges.
Yet speaking about shame and bringing it to light is exactly what we need to do to heal the wounds.
We get shamed as children for the littlest things.
For writing on the wall. For Coloring outside the lines. For playing with fire. For not being as good at school or sports as our siblings or the other kids.
All those little incidents add up over time to an unconscious feeling of unworthiness and being broken.
We then spend the rest of our lives running to seminars and gurus looking for the magic that will fix us and make us whole.
What we don’t see is that no one else can fix us. It’s purely an inside job.
It’s also not something that we can do overnight. These unconscious patterns were built up and reinforced over years and will take time to rewire.
The step in the rewiring process is to recognize that the shame is there. To recognize that it is running our lives in many different ways. To shine some light on those dark corners of our psyche.
Doing that in community, with a trusted group of people that we know will support us through the process, is essential.
Exploring this core issue in community also not only helps us, it also helps the rest of the community because shame is so universal in our society.
Are you ready to shine the light on your shame?
