Sometimes we feel powerless to do anything about our circumstances.
It might be because it is the result of what we have done in the past.
Or because the forces involved are so much greater than ourselves.
Yet our personal power is not about changing others.
It is about changing ourselves.
Yes, we make mistakes.
Yes, sometimes we do things that we know are not in complete alignment.
Yes, sometimes we do want the short cut.
And then it blows up in our face.
Now, we are forced to deal with the consequences of our actions.
Those things that we thought no one would ever find out.
The things we were so careful to keep hidden.
Now they all come out.
And there is nothing we can do about it.
Except admit to what we have done.
To take responsibility for all of it.
Even if we didn’t have any malicious intent behind it.
We are powerless to stop the forces at work.
Yet if we learn our lesson and stand up for what’s right.
To accept the results of what we have sown.
Then we can move forward.
We cannot change the past or what we have already done.
We cannot un-ring that bell.
So to find our sense of balance and power, we must accept.
Accept what has happened.
Accept what we have caused, intentional or not.
Accept that it is now our turn to own up to our mistakes.
And we can learn to be better for it.
We can come to a new place of more transparency and honesty.
We can move forward not to get past it, not to get through it, but to own it.
So we lick our wounds and bow our heads in shame.
Yet we cannot stay in shame.
So we pick ourselves up, look for the support we need, and begin again.
As if for the first time.
Learning to be better for what we experienced.
Yes, it hurts.
Yet we don’t have to live there.
And with time, we can raise our heads once again to see the sun shine.
