Contribution is not really about other people.
It is not about our community, our friends, or our world.
Contribution is about finding meaning in something more than ourselves.
Contribution is about how we feel when we contribute back to society.
Contribution can be a small effort, giving a charity or organization that is doing good work a few bucks.
Or contribution can be truly giving of ourselves, like donating our time to a shelter or soup kitchen.
There are many ways to contribute, not just time or money.
We can contribute our influence, or our resources.
We can contribute our ideas, or our expertise.
Yet the act of giving is more about how it makes us feel, than about being altruistic.
Of course, the two are not incompatible, nor are they exclusive.
There is nothing wrong with doing the right thing because it makes us feel good.
Indeed, isn’t it the sign of an enlightened soul the fact that they take great pleasure in helping others?
