When we look at ourselves in the mirror each day, it is easy to miss the change.
Our daily progress is just as easy to miss.
Because it is incremental and slow, it is barely noticeable.
It is only by taking a step back that we can see how far we have come.
Or anyone else, for that matter.
The people closest to us are usually the last people to notice what’s different.
Letting go of those extra couple of pounds, or getting into shape.
It is only when we meet someone who has not seen us for a while that we get the feedback.
How different we look or feel is much more evident to them.
Usually it is because of the distance since the last time they have seen us and now.
Perspective gives us much more contrast to work with.
How things used to be to how things are now is so much clearer.
Even to ourselves.
And before getting upset at others not seeing the change in us, we must ask ourselves, Do I see the change in them?
Usually not.
We are all guilty of it.
Not because we don’t want to see the change, because we are just too close.
Like some paintings that up close only look like a bunch of dots.
When we step back and get further away from the painting, patterns begin to emerge.
And as we step even further back, the new perspective reveals the true picture.
This is so true of Life as well.
When we are too close to the source, we cannot see the pattern.
We cannot see how things are different.
And as we step back and allow time to give us a new perspective, the change emerges into our view.
It was always there.
Yet without the new perspective, we could not see it.
So how much distance do we need to see the change?
How long does it takes us to see the growth?
To see the transformation that is taking place right before our eyes?
