Taking a break from our regular day-to-day routine can often be the most productive thing we can do with our time. When we are so focused on deadlines, so caught up in crisis management, so involved with the daily grind, it becomes hard to be creative, resourceful, and original.
So much is expected of us today in the business world that we forget how “play” helps our brains to de-stress, become more creative, and allow new connections to be made that actually help the bottom line of our ventures.
When we show up in our offices, our businesses, or our practices with new eyes, a clear mind, and a refreshed spirit, we notice connections we didn’t see before, we see things from a different point of view more easily, and we bring all of that new found insight into our jobs.
More hours working does not necessarily mean we are being more productive. It only means we are putting more hours in. Taking even a 30 minute break that allows us to reach an “Aha!” moment, is far more productive that just hammering away at the problem without a respite.
