mixed-bag

Life is always a mixed bag.

It is a mix of what we want and what we don’t want.

It is a mix of what thrills us and what brings us down.

It is a mix of people we enjoy being with and people we don’t.

The contrast is always there, yet ever-changing.

We can’t get rid of the contrast, and indeed we probably shouldn’t because we learn so much from it.

The bag will always be mixed.

The key is to focus on the parts of the bag that we enjoy, that uplifts us, and that supports us.

The parts of the bag that don’t are also there for a reason. Let’s learn from them and not judge them.

Ultimately, all the parts of the bag make up life. They are all part of the whole.

So let’s have a little more compassion for the whole bag, and know that there will always be a mix.

What is it that pulls us forward into a better life?

It is not a better job or a better partner.

It is not more money or more contacts.

It is the vision we hold of our future selves.

How we envision ourselves in our future is what pulls us forward.

It calls us to do more, be more, and serve more.

When we see ourselves not only achieving more in our lives, but contributing more to the lives around us, that’s what inspires us to become more of who we really are.

We can only grow to the extent that we envision ourselves changing.

We only strive to the level that we see in our mind’s eye that’s achievable for us.

Our life is a creation of the vision we hold for ourselves and the belief that that vision is real and possible.

Can you see yourself a week, a month, or a year into the future?

Can you see the beauty you will create, the good you will do, the inspiration you will spread?

Time to envision more, feel it more, and allow it to pull you forward.

Yet sometimes being stuck is exactly where we need to be.

There is great information in being in that place of stuckness.

Perhaps it is an indication that you can take a break. Perhaps it is a way for the Universe to slow you down and give you some perspective.

Maybe we need to be stuck every once in  awhile to remind us of what’s like, and why we like moving forward so much more.

There is so much to be learned from being in a stuck place, we just have to learn to be okay with not being comfortable in that place, give it some space, and look at it with new eyes.

Is there another way to go?

Are you sure you want to continue on the path you’re on?

Is there a new direction or new journey you can take that feels better for you?

Are there things you have not yet considered about where you are that you can look at more deeply?

Being stuck is one of the great pauses we can take to look around, re-evaluate, and reconsider what we’re doing or where we’re going.

Let’s not waste the moment complaining about it. Let’s use being stuck as the great opportunity it is to ponder and meditate on our situation more deeply…

Strategy is only 10% of the equation of success yet we spend the most amount of time focused on strategy.

The other 90%, the 90% that is the foundation everything we do, is made up of the energy around our endeavors.

The energy around what we do primarily comes from two things.

First, it comes from the experiences we have had in our lives and the meaning we have made from those experiences.

Second, it comes from our choices and responses to all of our experiences.

We experience life from our own particular point of view. From that point of view, we have decided if we live in a compassionate, loving universe, or a cold, dispassionate, mechanical universe.

From the point of view we have adopted, we then respond to life in an optimistic, hopeful, abundant manner, or we respond in a pessimistic, doubtful, lackful manner.

Our results show us our foundation. Our feelings belie our beliefs.

If we come from a place of joy, we will have a joyful journey and joyful results regardless of our strategy.

If we come from a place of lack, we will have a journey of struggle and hard work, and our results never quiet seem to measure up, regardless of our strategy.

Perhaps it is time to spend more emphasis on our energy than on our strategy?

Being truthful is not about telling the truth to others.

Being truthful is not about not telling lies.

Being truthful is about being honest with yourself.

Before we can begin to be authentic in public, we first have to be in alignment within ourselves.

How can we speak truth to our tribe if we do not even know it ourselves?

Too often we find people who will say one thing in private, and another in public.

Regardless of the validity of the statements, if we are not sharing the same message, whether in private or public, we are not being truthful.

Does this mean we have to tell everyone everything? No, of course not. What it means is that we are clear in our intent and with our presence. It means we are being the same person with our families, our friends, our business associates, or our tribe.

Our essence is what matters. Our presence conveys our essence. Our words reflect our essence.

The more true to ourselves about ourselves we are, the more true we can be to other people.

Shame is something we don’t often speak about in polite company.

It’s a topic to avoid because it is at the heart and core of many of our challenges.

Yet speaking about shame and bringing it to light is exactly what we need to do to heal the wounds.

We get shamed as children for the littlest things.

For writing on the wall. For Coloring outside the lines. For playing with fire. For not being as good at school or sports as our siblings or the other kids.

All those little incidents add up over time to an unconscious feeling of unworthiness and being broken.

We then spend the rest of our lives running to seminars and gurus looking for the magic that will fix us and make us whole.

What we don’t see is that no one else can fix us. It’s purely an inside job.

It’s also not something that we can do overnight. These unconscious patterns were built up and reinforced over years and will take time to rewire.

The step in the rewiring process is to recognize that the shame is there. To recognize that it is running our lives in many different ways. To shine some light on those dark corners of our psyche.

Doing that in community, with a trusted group of people that we know will support us through the process, is essential.

Exploring this core issue in community also not only helps us, it also helps the rest of the community because shame is so universal in our society.

Are you ready to shine the light on your shame?
